What we check — and what we don't
Below you can read, per party, what SpotShelf checks today before a booking goes ahead, and what we don't.

Why
Trust before the first booking
A brand puts its products in someone else's store; a retailer gives a brand space. So we check at two moments: a brand's KvK number before their first booking, and a retailer's payment onboarding before they can accept a booking.
Brands' KvK number
In the Netherlands you need a KvK (Chamber of Commerce) registration to sell in person. We check every brand's number once, before their first booking.
Retailers' payment onboarding
A retailer can only accept a booking once onboarding with Stripe, our payment partner, is complete. Without it, payouts aren't possible.
The KvK label
If you see a 'KvK verified' label, we've checked that KvK number. If you don't, we haven't checked it.
KvK check
How we check a KvK number
Brands enter their KvK number on their brand profile. We look it up by hand in the KvK's public trade register before their first booking can be confirmed. The brand gets an email once we've reviewed it.

Retailers can enter their KvK number, but we don't check it yet.
Good to know
Rules that apply to stores
As a retailer you remain responsible for the rules in your store, including when a brand is there with you. SpotShelf doesn't check this. These rules are worth knowing.
Working Conditions Act (Arbowet)
Employers in the Netherlands are required to provide a safe working environment and organise appropriate emergency response measures.

Fire safety
Business premises must comply with the Buildings (Living Environment) Decree (Bbl), which replaced the Bouwbesluit.

Depending on the type of business, additional municipal permits may be required.

Then the brand pays and the rental starts.
The KvK label
What 'KvK verified' means
You'll see this label when we've checked a retailer's or brand's KvK number. It means the number is in the trade register. It says nothing about safety, permits or the quality of a store.

Legal responsibility
SpotShelf checks brands' KvK numbers and handles payments through Stripe. We don't check permits, safety measures or other declarations. The ultimate responsibility for compliance with all applicable laws and regulations remains with the business owner. SpotShelf accepts no liability for non-compliance by participating businesses.
